Supporting joint development with universities and research institutions
We provide backup support from research and development project planning to partner search, collaboration, implementation, and organizational development at headquarters
There are over 1,200 R&D centers (research institutes) of non-Indian companies in India*. Many highly skilled IT professionals and excellent research personnel in fields such as medicine and chemistry exist within India, with over 9 million undergraduate and master's students in science and engineering. Japanese companies such as Hitachi, NEC, Fujitsu, Sony, NTT Data, and Daikin have established their research institutes, positioning India as an important research and development base in their global strategy. Recently, examples of Japanese companies have increased, including retail businesses that support DX at their headquarters with their own bases established in India, and IT companies that have newly placed teams in India for product development aimed at Japan. Meanwhile, joint research with Indian universities is also of high interest from the Indian side and is attracting attention from overseas companies. In Japan, support activities from organizations like JETRO have encouraged growing interest in India from research departments of Japanese companies. Joint development with universities contributes to the globalization of corporate research departments and improves recognition and credibility of companies at partner universities, which is advantageous for securing talent. Japanese companies have also begun to promote joint development with local bio-research institutions. The challenges in the field are discerning potential research partners in the local area and creating organizations within Japanese headquarters. Sharing a long-term vision is essential with partners from higher education institutions like IIT (Indian Institute of Technology), which many Japanese companies are focusing on. At the same time, flexibility is required to respond to changes in external factors during the research process and changes in research direction. Many of our members have experience working in research departments of global companies or promoting business development through internal collaboration with such departments. We also have networks with connections to IIT secretariats and laboratories in local India, and partners skilled in creating systems for establishing research institutes, including human resources. We spare no effort in supporting the success of corporate core research and development.
